Council House Improvement Schemes

Maintaining our housing stock

The Council's aim is to "effectively maintain and improve the housing stock and local environment" in order that our stock will meet, and exceed, the Decent Homes Standard set by the Government.

We have a continual programme of home improvements, including maintenance and energy improvements, which helps us acheive this aim:

  • Ipswich Borough Council has an ongoing scheduled programme of internal modernisation and improvements to kitchens, bathrooms and the layout of our older homes. Tenants can choose from a number of different improvement packages; from having kitchens completely refitted, to having additional sockets and security measures added to their home.
  • Our Affordable Warmth Programme is designed to improve the energy efficiency of council homes by reducing the heat lost through poor insulation. The programme includes the provision of efficient central heating systems, cavity wall and loft insulation.
  • The WIRES scheme ensures that each year a certain number of properties across the town are rewired, and electrical wiring in communal areas of flats is brought up to modern standards.

If you would like more information about any of these schemes, please contact your Housing Officer.
