Information for Landlords

How we can help

All payments of Local Housing Allowance (LHA) must be made directly to the tenant. However, in some special cases we can decide to pay the landlord directly instead. You can find out more about this on the Local Housing Allowance Landlord Advice page.

Information about payment dates for claimants and landlords is available on the Housing Benefit payment dates page.

Notify us of any change

A landlord receiving direct payments will be asked to repay any benefit received for periods after the tenant leaves the premises. In some circumstances a landlord may also be asked to repay benefit if the circumstances of the tenant change.

It is important that landlord notify us if:

  • The tenant moves or changes rooms;
  • The landlord becomes aware of a change in the tenant's circumstances which might affect their benefits.
