Ipswich Borough Council's Corporate Health and Safety Manager coordinates all corporate health and safety issues that affect the Council. They are also responsible for overseeing compliance of health and safety legislation.

The health and safety legislation deals with health and safety issues which Ipswich Borough Council has a duty to comply with. The legislation aims to:

  • Provide a competent health and safety management and advisory service to all service areas;
  • Develop and implement a Health and Safety Policy and other relevant strategies, policies, guidance and procedures, such as accident reporting;
  • Investigate serious or potentially serious health and safety related incidents, prepare reports and make recommendations on corrective action.
  • Bring issues to the attention of Councillors, Directors, the corporate Health and Safety Group and Health and Safety Committee, where necessary;
  • Negotiate with the Health and Safety Executive, Trade Unions and other bodies on health and safety issues affecting the Council;
  • Identify health and safety training needs for Councillors and staff and provide or facilitate this training;
  • Prepare regular reports to Councillors and management on the health and safety issues currently affecting the council.
