What the Council is doing
Clean and Green Ipswich - Corporate Plan
The first goal in our Corporate Plan is to create a 'Clean and Green Ipswich'. You can read more in the Corporate Plan PDF:
This involves many different service areas, such as the Environment Strategy team, the Cleansing team, the Waste and Recycling team, and the Wildlife and Education Rangers. We also work closely with partners across the county and the region, such as CRed and the Greenest County campaign.
Staff Green Travel Plan
When we moved to our new headquarters, Grafton House, in September 2007, we introduced a Green Travel Plan.
This led to the introduction of staff car parking charges, discounted public transport tickets and participation in Cyclescheme to encourage staff to travel to work using a more sustainable mode of transport.
Carbon Management Plan
In 2008 we were accepted on the Carbon Trust's Local Authority Carbon Management Programme. Not all local authorities who apply are accepted onto the programme so we were very proud that Ipswich was selected.
We named Ipswich's Carbon Management Programme IMPACT.
IMPACT demonstrates Ipswich Borough Council's commitment to lead by example. As the main authority representing the Ipswich community we feel that we are in a strong position to influence others, whether businesses, other public sector organisations or residents. Through this programme we can demonstrate the benefits of efficiency, in relation to saving energy and efficient procurement, to others.
On 31st March 2009 the IMPACT Carbon Management Plan was approved by Executive Committee. This means that there is Council support to implement projects aimed at tackling our carbon emissions.
