If you live permanently in a residents parking zone you can buy a residents permit for your household. You can also buy daily permits for your visitors. Businesses in the residents zone can also buy residents permits.

How to apply for a permit

To apply for your residents permit you need to provide evidence of your address. Take your current council tax bill plus either a utility bill or bank statement to the One-Ipswich Customer Service Centre. You can complete an application form and make a payment here, the permit will be sent to you by post.

If you have recently moved to your property and haven't received your council tax bill please contact Parking Services to find out how to obtain a temporary permit.

How to apply for visitor permits

Applications can be made in person by taking your 1-hour visitor time clock and your most recent council tax bill or a utility bill to the One-Ipswich Customer Service Centre.

Alternatively, post the re-order form to the address shown above including a cheque for the relevant amount made payable to Ipswich Borough Council, and a photocopy of your most recent council tax bill or utility bill.

A current residents permit must be held to purchase visitor permits. A maximum of five visitor booklets per household are permitted in each 6-month period, and no more than 10 booklets per household per year.

Tradesmen and Statutory services

Tradesmen and statutory services who need to visit houses in the residents parking zones for their work may apply for an exemption permit. For further information and an application form please visit the permits and parking waivers page. Alternatively, a visitor permit purchased by the resident of the property should be displayed in the vehicle.

Moving house

If you move house and are no longer in the same Resident's Parking Zone you may claim a refund of the period remaining by returning your permit and time clock to Parking Services.

An administration fee of £5 will be deducted from the refunded amount.

You may need to park in a restricted area for loading or unloading when moving house. If you are using a removal company they are usually exempt from parking regulations. If you are using your own vehicle or a hire vehicle you may need to apply for a permit. Please contact Parking Services for further information.
