Disposing of Large Items
What to do
If you have items that are too large to be picked up as part of normal rubbish collections you may need to use the bulky collection service. Before you book a collection take a look at our re-use information as someone else may be able to use your item.
Bulky refuse collection service
If your items are unsuitable for re-use and you cannot recycle them at the HWRC, Ipswich Borough Council offers a chargeable collection service.
How much does it cost?
The service costs £24 per collection of up to five items (prices subject to change). If you have additional items we can collect them at the same time but you will be charged accordingly:
1 - 5 items will count as 1 collection = £24
6 - 10 items will count as 2 collections = £48
11 - 15 items will count as 3 collections = £72
If you are on means tested benefit such as Pension Credit, Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance, income-based, you are entitled to one free bulky refuse collection a year (1 collection = up to 5 items).
Items that have more than one piece e.g a bed with a divan base, mattress and headboard will be counted as individual items.

How can I arrange a bulky household waste collection?
To arrange a collection please contact the Waste and Recycling team or complete an online application form. You will then need to place the items at the front of your property before the specified collection day.
When you make your booking we will require a full list of the items to be collected. Only the items you have listed will be collected. If you need to change an item on the list you must call in advance.
A bulky collection of garden waste is also available. Please visit our Garden Waste Bulk Collections page for more information.
When will my collection take place?
We will advise you of the collection day when you book, or you can use the link below and input your street name to find out:
Where do I leave my items for collection?
Items must be placed outside and be clearly visible from the main road on the day of collection. Collection crews are not, under any circumstances, permitted to enter any property so your items must be outside. Please do not place extra bags or boxes beside your black bin as these will not be collected.
