Ipswich Education Quarter
Suffolk New College
The development of University Campus Suffolk (UCS) has enabled increased growth and improvement for the College.
When UCS launched on 1st August 2007, Suffolk College became Suffolk New College (SNC) and transferred all Higher Education provision to UCS. From then on, SNC students could still access the same high quality Further Education courses as were previously available, but additional post-graduate level courses and a range of business and professional consultancy services also became available.
The development of the college site has seen the creation of a £63.5m further education college. The 22,000 sqm building is situated in Rope Walk, to the north of the old college site. This new Further Education College includes facilities which will be open to the general public such as a top quality restaurant, hair and beauty salons and a performance theatre.
These new buildings and facilities are helping the College to meet the increasing demand for vocational education and training, and the continuing growth in 16 - 19 year olds who wish to study further education. Full-time further education student figures at Suffolk New College have expanded to more than 2,400 since 2005, with at least an additional 3,500 students taking part-time further education courses.
