South West Area Committee

What's on in South West

Councillor Peter Gardiner

With Councillor Peter Gardiner, Chair

"We are planning several walkabouts in the coming months in order to engage with the community in each of our four wards.

"We want to involve you fully in our discussions and decision-making - this is a great opportunity to change the way we do things. But that is only going to work if you tell us what concerns - or pleases - you in this part of Ipswich."

South West Area Update

Walkabouts have been a successful focus of the South West Area Committee and eight have taken place across all four wards. In each case, councillors and officers have been joined by residents eager to help and get involved.  The South West wards are all very different but common themes have linked all, those being fly-tipping and littering.  Parking, speeding and pot-holes have also featured. All issues raised have been collated and sent to the relevant officers and agencies for responses, which have been fed back at the area committee meetings. This way residents can keep track of what's being done. Walkabouts for 2013 have yet to be planned and Clean Ups may also take place.

Wind turbines were a major feature of the last South West Area Committee. The meeting was attended by approximately 150 residents all keen to find out more and make their points for or against.  Not the easiest of meetings, however residents commented on how useful it was and were pleased to have been given the chance to raise their points.

The next South West Area Committee takes place on Tuesday 28th May Greenfinch Church Hall, Greenfinch Avenue, Ipswich, IP2 0SQ,and starts at 6.30pm. All welcome.
