This sculpture was made in steel by Suffolk sculptor Paul Richardson and is on the roof of the public toilet building at Major's Corner. The Major is swatting flies!

The Borough Council felt that a building that provides such essential public facilities but by its function is quite plain in design should be enlivened by public art, particularly as public art commissions are becoming an increasingly common part of the development process.

Paul Richardson's work has been exhibited in Ipswich in the past but not on a permanent public basis. Paul, who is based near Middleton in Suffolk has undertaken numerous prestigious public commissions for Canterbury City Council, Birmingham City Council, Staffordshire County Council and Suffolk County Council among others.

Paul has completed other public works in Ipswich which include The Foxgrove Band Gates, Decorative Church Gate at St Peter's Church, and Quick Step to Recovery at Ipswich Hospital.

Other Public Art nearby: The Town Centre and Christchurch Park.
