Decorative Church Gate
- By Paul Richardson
- 2008
- Steel
- St Peter's Church
These gates were commissioned by the Ipswich Hospital Band, who converted the deconsecrated church into a concert venue.
They show 'angels of music' which highlights the new role of St Peter's while sympathising with the church's architecture. The angels' wings echo parts of the wind instruments from the Hospital Band. Playing flute and horn, they hover over water under a starry sky, celebrating the new home of music at the Waterfront.
The gates were installed in spring 2008.
More information about St Peter's Church is available on the Suffolk Churches website.
Paul Richardson's sculptures are large, loud, funny and flamboyant. He has also made The Foxgrove Band Gates, at St Peter's Church, Major in Ipswich town centre, and Quick Step to Recovery at Ipswich Hospital.
