Sport Relief
21st Mar 2010
Ipswich is calling on local residents to sign up for The Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in Christchurch Park. There will be lots of sports activities happening too so why not come along and join in?
Time: 09.30 - 14.30
Location: Christchurch Park
Cost: £5 adults, £2 children
The run combines fun and raising money for Sport Relief charities. There are three different distances for you to choose from - if you think a mile is not enough!
The event in Christchurch Park opens at 09.30 and closes at 14.30. Available start times are:
- 1 mile events: 11.00, 11.30
- 3 mile events: 10.00, 10.30
- 6 mile events: 10.00, 10.30
Entry costs £5 for adults (16 and over), and £2 for children (under 16). A family of two adults and two children can enter for £12.
However, the entry fee only helps to cover the cost of staging the event so make sure you get sponsored to raise money and change lives.
Sport Relief brings the country together to get active, raise cash and change lives. By doing sport, having fun and raising money, everyone can do good and feel good. All the money raised is spent helping poor and disadvantaged people turn their lives around - in the UK as well as the world's poorest countries.
Councillor Judy Terry, Arts, Culture & Leisure portfolio-holder, said: "Ipswich securing this type of prestigious event for a fourth time is wonderful for the people of the town, bringing opportunities to get involved, explore our fantastic parks, get active and raise money for charity."
As well as the Mile events, Christchurch Park will also be home to an interactive sports arena, hosted by local sports clubs. Demonstrations are open to everyone to come and join in so choose your sport and come and have a go! The activities will include:
- Tri-golf led by Fynn Valley Golf Club;
- Cricket led by Ipswich Cricket Club;
- Boxing, Karate and Kickboxing led by St Helen's Boxing Club;
- American Football led by the Ipswich Cardinals;
- Cheerleading led by the Ipswich Cardinelles;

Both Hidden and Clear: Lady Anne Drury's emblematic closet - Susan W. Gardner
This talk will explore the meanings of the strange and enigmatic Hawstead Panels, painted by Lady Ann Drury sometime in the first decade of the 17th Century.
In an attempt to understand the meanings this room and its emblems may have held for its creator, Susan researched aspects of this Painted Closet for her MA and PhD at Sussex University, and has continued on this journey of discovery ever since.
It is advised that people visit the panels, which are housed in Christchurch Mansion, prior to the talk. Entrance to the Mansion is free, every day, 10.00 - 17.00.

Drawing from life: Suffolk artists - Emma Roodhouse
In what is sure to be a very revealing talk, Emma talks about the life drawing studies in the Museums' collection.
With a particular focus on the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing and Ipswich Art School, this talk highlights how the two differed in their approach to life drawing. Linking with the Colin Moss exhibition in Gallery 3, Emma explores examples of work by Colin Moss, Cedric Morris, Lucian Freud and Maggi Hambling.
Please note that the talk will feature nude images from the art collection.
