Suzanne takes trading test

Published Wednesday 19th October 2011

The latest entrepreneur to occupy the “Test Trading” unit in Ipswich’s Tower Ramparts shopping centre is Suzanne Howes, of Prima Gifts and Favours.

Suzanne worked as a hospitality / retail manager for several years and after being made redundant decided to set up her own business. She decided to develop Prima Gifts and Favours because she enjoyed making gift hampers and was disappointed by the lack of unique Christmas gifts on the high street. Since then, Suzanne has expanded her range to include wedding favours and other retail gifts.  If her time in Test Trading is successful she hopes to be able to invest in equipment to personalise hampers and favours for corporate companies and events, as well as for the general public.

The idea for "Test Trading" came from Ipswich Borough Council, which is working in partnership with Tower Ramparts, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and Ipswich Central to offer entrepreneurs a retail unit in the shopping centre for a trial period of up to six weeks.

Suzanne said: "I want to offer unique gifts, value for money and excellent service.  While the economic climate is a concern, I believe that by providing a good product, excellent service and convenience there is still room for new businesses to develop. There has been a lot of press regarding the need to regenerate Britain's high streets, and I believe that small businesses play a key part in this, alongside greater accessibility and refocusing on the evolving needs of the consumer."

Mike Sorhaindo, Centre Manager said: "It is important to us to work with and assist individuals such as Suzanne who are prepared to take that leap of faith in launching a new business, and I am certain that the service Suzanne provides will be received positively by our shoppers, especially those looking for a unique and personal gift for friends and family members."
