Crown Street car park is back in business with nearly 230 spaces and has been officially opened by the Borough Council.

Crown Car park reopened by Cllr Tanya de Hoedt and Mike SorhaindoThe Council, which owns and operates the car park, closed the old multi-storey last October on safety grounds. Now its successor is open for motorists and is handy for shoppers and swimmers - Crown Pools, Tower Ramparts, Debenhams and Marks & Spencer are all close by. It is also a short walk from Ipswich Museum and the new Art School Gallery.

The tariff is £1.60 for an hour, £2.90 for two hours and £7.40 for five hours. Motorists can park in the evenings for just £2.

Councillor Tanya De Hoedt, the Borough Council's Transport portfolio-holder, and Tower Ramparts Shopping Centre Manager Mike Sorhaindo opened the new Crown car park. Councillor De Hoedt said: "The car park gives a real boost to shoppers and retailers and I congratulate all concerned for getting this work completed quickly and in good time for the festive season. There is plenty of good car parking provision in and around the town centre now."
