Snow updates - closures and cancellations
Published Friday 3rd December 2010
This news article provides all the latest weather updates for Ipswich Borough Council.
Roads and paths
Salt spreaders have been in action constantly since the cold snap began to bite last week but the roads remain tricky because of the volume of snow.
Gritting teams are working hard to keep things moving and street cleansing staff have also been drafted in to help with spreading salt in town centre areas.
The Council is repeating Police advice for all road-users to take extra care and allow more times for their journeys.
Bin collections
The Borough Council's refuse crews are doing everything they can to get to people's black and blue bins and collected around 95% on Friday. However, some areas remained inaccessible to the heavy vehicles.
Brown bin collections have been cancelled for Friday and Monday.
Tree planting events
Two tree planting events that the Wildlife Rangers were due to host in Landseer Park and Christchurch Park this weekend have been cancelled.
Both events will be rearranged in the near future.
Sports centres
All football games on Council parks and sports centre pitches are cancelled for the weekend. This decision will preserve the pitches and reduce future cancellations.
The Old Cemetery
The Old Cemetery in Ipswich is open for pedestrian access only. Some of the steeper areas have been cordoned off for safety reasons.
Bus journeys
Some bus journeys have been badly disrupted - please check with operators before travelling.
