Celebrating Diversity – “Proud of our Talent …”
Published Monday 25th June 2012
Thousands of people celebrated the regions diversity over the weekend at Suffolk Pride 2012.
The event, in Christchurch park, celebrated the talent of Suffolk's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals through street theatre performances, dance, vintage markets, and various food stalls.
Throughout the celebrations people visited the Ipswich Borough Council stall hosted by the Community Services and Community Safety team. It was a chance for the teams to showcase some of the positive work and to chat with the LBG&T communities finding out their perspective on community issues. A large number of visitors to the stall also signed up to the Ipswich Direct scheme that communicates with residents on topics they are interested in.
Terry Hayward, Head of Community Services said, "It is important to capture local peoples' views, experiences and perceptions, so that services we provide can reflect these".
