Cold weather beds – service continues
Published Monday 3rd December 2012
The provision of extra cold weather beds for rough sleepers will continue until further notice, Ipswich Borough Council announced today.
This service, provided by Ipswich Borough Council in partnership with Genesis Housing Association, is based at Cavendish Lodge, 10 Turret Lane, Ipswich.
The Council runs two emergency beds all year round for people in need but that provision is increased to 12 when temperatures fall. A colder snap is predicted to return tomorrow.
Access to Cavendish Lodge is open from 6.30pm for an initial assessment by staff, with beds available from 8pm, on a first come/first served basis and also comes with an offer of housing advice to see if trained staff can provide longer term help.
The Council will be working with local churches, which are also supplying a winter bed service for people in need. The Ipswich Churches Winter Night Shelter comes into operation on Wednesday.
