More help for rough sleepers
Published Tuesday 5th February 2013
With temperatures set to fall this week, Ipswich Borough Council is to re-activate its emergency beds scheme for rough sleepers from Wednesday (6th February) until further notice.
This cold weather beds service is provided in partnership with Genesis Housing Association and is based at Cavendish Lodge, 10 Turret Lane, Ipswich.
The Borough Council runs two emergency beds all year round for people in need but that provision is increased to 12 when temperatures drop sharply.
Access to Cavendish Lodge is open from 6pm for an initial assessment by staff, with beds available from 8pm, on a first come/first served basis and also comes with an offer of housing advice to see if trained staff can provide longer term help.
The Council is working with local churches, which are also supplying a winter bed service for people in need. The Ipswich Churches Winter Night Shelter came into operation last December.
