New parking enforcement

Published Tuesday 23rd March 2010

If you find an inconsiderate motorist blocking the dropped kerb access to your home you can get in touch with Ipswich Borough Council's Parking Service and action will be taken.

That is the message to residents after the Borough Council took over enforcement of parking in front of dropped kerbs and pedestrian crossings.

Residents and owners/users of commercial properties hindered by cars blocking their access should ring the following numbers:

  • Monday to Friday - 01473 432845, or, 01473 432846
  • Saturday and Sunday - 01473 432843, or, 01473 432845

If an enforcement officer observes a vehicle parked fully or partly on a dropped footway provided for ease of access to cross a road or at a pedestrian crossing the motorist will receive an automatic penalty charge notice.

Parking on and around crossings is dangerous - imagine if you were elderly, a mum with a pushchair or partially sited and were trying to cross safely.

The new enforcement arrangements came in earlier this year.
