Two spectacular shows at the Regent Theatre have raised £50,000 for the international development charity The Hunger Project.

The ballet performances, featuring Ipswich-born ballet star Gary Avis and a host of international stars from The Royal Ballet and English International Ballet, wowed audiences in September. They were hosted by Angela Rippon and it was the first time for almost 50 years that world class dancers from both ballet companies had been on the Regent stage. In fact, it was the biggest UK gala to be performed by Royal Ballet dances for well over a decade.

Councillor Bryony Rudkin, Ipswich Borough Council's Culture portfolio-holder, said: "Not only was this a magnificent event but also a huge success for Gary and The Hunger Project. I am delighted that so much was raised for such a good cause."
