Olympic trees in our parks

Five special trees have been planted in Ipswich parks.
The Gingko biloba (maidenhair tree) specimens were destined for the Olympic Village in London but now have a home in Chantry, Christchurch, Alexandra, Landseer and Bourne parks.
Around 30 children from Clifford Road Primary School turned out to watch young cross-country runner Keiran Clements plant the tree in Alexandra Park, while Friends of Christchurch Park and Ipswich Borough Council staff saw GB athlete Helen Davies (nee Decker) do the honours in the Lower Arboretum.
Swimming coach Dave Champion took up the spade in Bourne Park while tennis ace Sue Fulcher brought along grandson George to help her at Landseer. Council chiefs planted the tree in Chantry Park.
