Ipswich Torch Relay Celebration - how to get your tickets
Published Monday 30th April 2012
Ipswich Borough Council is hosting an Olympic Torch Celebration on Thursday 5th July 2012 as part of the Ipswich Arts Festival, Ip-art 2012.
The Olympic Torch enters Ipswich and journeys through the town, finally resting in Christchurch Park for the night. During the evening Ipswich will be able to celebrate the Olympics in a unique show, in Christchurch Park with 10,000 free tickets available.
Members of the public can pick up their tickets from the Town Hall on Wednesday 23rd May between 08:00 - 14:00 or from the Regent Theatre website from 11:00 (web bookings incur a £3 postage and packaging fee).
As part of this cultural celebration we will be hosting a 'Community Village of Sport, Recreation and Leisure' for our local sporting clubs and voluntary and charitable organisations, as well as 'Hotspot Entertainment Zones' along the Torch route featuring local performing groups. We would now welcome your submissions of interest for inclusion in these areas.
The zones are free to attend for participating groups and will open free of charge to the public from 2-8pm on July 5th, with the ticketed celebration show taking place in a secure area of the park. We anticipate that there will be people both with and without tickets in the park as it will be an ideal location to enjoy the atmosphere and see the Torch.
Applicants to the Hotspot Entertainment Zones should be aware that there is no sound system or power supply for the Hotspot Entertainment Zones. Any recorded music will need to be played on a portable battery operated CD player, provided by the group. There is no technical support available, due to the nature of the Torch Route, being through the town and around busy areas. Each group will need to have a performance of no longer than 10 minutes that can be repeated numerous times. There are also no changing facilities available.
Local sports clubs, organisations and groups wishing to be involved in the Community Village are encouraged to lead interactive opportunities to engage with people and effectively promote their inclusive services. The Community Village will be set up by 1pm and cleared away from 8pm.
