The Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) aimed to support businesses that were not covered by other grant schemes or required additional funding.

ARG - Phase 6

The Council has now launched the next phase of its ARG scheme to support businesses who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under Phase 6, two grants will be available:

  • A Business Hardship Grant
  • A Business Growth and Innovation Grant

Business Hardship Grant

This grant is for small Ipswich businesses at risk of closure due to ongoing losses caused by COVID-19 restrictions and regulations.

Qualifying Criteria

To be eligible for the hardship grant, businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Have been trading since the 1 September 2020
  • Be a small business with 2 - 49 employees.
  • Have commercial premises within the Ipswich Borough Council boundary
  • Have, and continue to be, significantly impacted by Covid-19 with losses of at least 15% up to and including summer 2021 (when compared with comparable months in 2019)
  • Have premises or operational costs that cannot be reduced or mitigated and have suffered losses as a result of closure or reduced trade

Exclusions

Grants will not be paid to:

  • National chains
  • Businesses that predominantly trade online
  • Businesses outside the Ipswich Borough Council boundary
  • Businesses who operate from home addresses
  • Businesses who have more than 49 employees
  • Companies in administration, insolvent or where a striking off notice has been made
  • Businesses that have exceeded the Government subsidy rules
  • Businesses who apply for the grant after the application closure date

Amount of Grant

Successful applicants will receive a one-off payment of up to £10,000.

Business Growth and Innovation Grant

This grant is for local businesses who have identified a project, product, service or process that enables innovative recovery from the impact of COVID-19.

The Council will fund up to half the project costs. It is open to businesses of all sizes including Sole Traders that have employees.

Projects will need to meet two or more of the following objectives:

  • Increase jobs or apprenticeships
  • Increase productivity
  • Drive innovation
  • Provide improvement to your business resilience and sustainability
  • Improve visitor experience within Ipswich
  • Increase footfall to the town centre
  • Improve the quality of the retail experience
  • Unit expansion
  • Improve local supply chains

Qualifying Criteria

To be eligible for the growth and innovation grant, businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a trading address or can demonstrate that most of their business operations are within the Ipswich Borough boundary
  • Have been trading since Sept 2020
  • Meet two or more of the Grant Objectives above

Exclusions

Grants will not be paid to:

  • Companies that are in administration, insolvent or where a striking-off notice has been made
  • Businesses that would exceed the Government Subsidy rules if given the grant

Amount of Grant

The Council will fund up to 50% of the new project cost subject to a maximum contribution of £10,000.
