VACANCY – INDEPENDENT REMUNERATION PANEL

You are here

We are looking to recruit three people to become members of Ipswich Borough Council’s Independent Remuneration Panel.

The People of Ipswich elect 48 Borough Councillors to determine the policies and priorities of a very large and complex organisation. Councillors undertake a wide range of roles and receive financial allowances in accordance with a scheme which sets out the payments to be made for each role.

The Council’s Independent Remuneration Panel will be required to meet (likely virtually) to review the current Members Allowances Scheme and make proposals for the Council to consider by late summer 2024. The Panel will probably need to meet 3-4 times.

The Panel will comprise 3 independent members and the intention is for the Panel itself to nominate its own Chair from the members appointed. An allowance of £300 will be payable to successful applicants once a revised Members’ Allowances Scheme has been adopted by the Council, predicted to be September 2024.

To be considered for a position on the Panel, you will need:

  • An understanding of the role of Councillors
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • A high level of integrity and probity
  • An ability to analyse information and make recommendations to the Council as a whole
  • The ability to demonstrate sound judgement in decision making
  • The ability to acquire knowledge quickly
  • The ability to work with others

You must live or work in the borough and must not be politically active or have any relationship with Councillors or the Council.
