Two bins outside libraries in Ipswich have had a colourful makeover thanks to local school children taking part in the Brighten our Bins competition.
The competition run by Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk Libraries invited local children aged 14 and under to come up with designs themed on reading or recycling to promote the importance of recycling and litter reduction.
Two dual bins outside Ipswich County Library and Gainsborough Community Library now feature the four winning designs, encouraging everyone to separate recyclable and normal waste and to be ‘Proud of Ipswich’ and keep the town tidy.
The bin outside Ipswich County Library also celebrates the library’s 100th year which has been celebrated with a series of events including a special exhibition which will be on display in the library until the end of 2024.
Councillor Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Transport, says:
“Thank you to all the children and their families who took the time to enter this competition. It’s been fantastic to see young people engaged in keeping Ipswich tidy and to see their love of reading come to life in their designs.
"We’d also like to thank Suffolk Libraries for collaborating with us for this competition and we hope the winning, eye-catching designs will encourage everyone to bin their litter in Ipswich.”
James Powell, Communications Manager at Suffolk Libraries, added:
“We were delighted to support this competition. It was wonderful to see so many colourful designs celebrating what our libraries mean to local children and the importance of recycling and keeping the local community clean and tidy.”
