Area Committee funding

Ipswich is divided into five areas, each of which has its own area committee. Within these areas,

councillors work with residents,  local businesses, and your community groups to discuss how their budgets can be spent to make improvements in your area. Each committee has an annual budget, (see below, 2 October 2024

Who and what do we fund?

Funding is available to make positive improvements to your community in each of the five local areas. Area committees award funding to projects in local neighbourhoods to improve the life of residents and find solutions in the area.

We fund projects led by voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCSFE) groups and organisations. Projects must address at least one of the priorities outlined in the relevant area action plan and benefit a significant number of people from within this area.

Area committee grant funding will:

  • Promote health and wellbeing.
  • Tackle disadvantage.
  • Support local solutions to meet local needs.
  • Promote community cohesion.
  • Develop sustainable and supportive communities.
  • Make Ipswich a cleaner, more attractive and sustainable place.

Making a difference fund

This fund is set aside from the main area committee budgets each year for smaller projects. Each ward has an annual budget of £500 to help local groups. Typically, it is used to purchase small items or for event costs.

Ravenswood community fund

The Ravenswood community fund was created through contributions by the two housing developers contracted for the delivery of the Ravenswood area: Ashwell’s and Bellway Homes. The fund was initially managed by the Ravenswood steering committee but is now managed by the southeast area committee.
