Advice for people with unused land

Published5th July 2017

Planners in Ipswich have today announced a drop-in event to help people who might own a piece of disused or undeveloped land and don’t know what to do with it.

The Borough Council launched its “Call For Sites” consultation last month, asking businesses or residents with land of at least a quarter of an acre to get in touch.

The  Council is preparing for the next Local Plan, a planning blueprint which sets out what land can be used for in the town and maps out its future development.

The Local Plan team has been encouraged by the initial response but wants to give more people the opportunity to find out about registering a disused building or an unused bit of land.

Experts will be on hand to give advice during the drop-in session at the Council’s Grafton House offices in Russell Road on Tuesday 11th July between 9am and 12.30pm.

If you cannot get along you can go online and download a submission form – it only takes a few minutes and if your site should be allocated for housing, employment or retail use it could be worth a lot more than at present.

You can also pick up a hard copy from Ipswich libraries, the Customer Services Centre at the Town Hall, or from Grafton House and post it to: Planning Policy Team, Ipswich Borough Council, Grafton House, Russell Road, Ipswich IP1 2DE

There are no guarantees that the site will be accepted for development – it is rather the first stage in identifying possible sites for the future.
