Blues and folk for Mayor’s charities

Published23rd February 2015

A blues and folk concert in aid of the Mayor of Ipswich’s official charities takes place at the Novotel hotel on Thursday 23rd April at 7.30pm.

This is the third annual treat for local music fans and the line-up features Back Porch, Silbury Hill, The Broadside Boys and Hunt the Wren.

Tickets cost £5 and are available from the Ipswich Tourist Information Centre, St Stephen’s Lane, tel: 01473 258070 or email tourist@ipswich.gov.uk. All proceeds will go to the charities supported by the Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Bill Quinton, in his year of office - the Alzheimers Society, Suffolk Family Carers, and the RSPCA (Suffolk & Ipswich branch).

Back Porch are no strangers to local music fans and are surely one of the county’s favourite bands. They perform at festivals and clubs throughout the country, delivering their upbeat, happy take on the blues with a mix of fine musicianship and a good deal of friendly banter between front man Mike Rushmore and the rest of the band.

The Broadside Boys - vocalist Mathew Bayfield and multi-instrumentalist, Eric Sedge - are fast establishing a name on the national folk scene, performing their songs inspired by life in the East of England at folk clubs and festivals across the country, as well as appearances on TV and radio.

Hunt the Wren play a lively mix of traditional songs, tunes and shanties, blending fine musicianship on a variety of instruments, with vocals and humour, fronted by vocalist Pam Fitzgerald.

Silbury Hill features the signature sound of Scott Dolling’s flute playing and the strings and voice of David Stainer in a set that includes covers from the likes of Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull plus original material inspired by their Suffolk roots.

The doors open at 7pm, first band on at 7.30pm and there will be a bar. Purchasing tickets in advance from the Tourist Information Centre is recommended as numbers will be limited at the venue.
