Borough to run new shuttle bus service

Published27th July 2017

Ipswich Borough Council is stepping in to run a new free town centre shuttle bus service.

The current service 38, which is primarily funded by Suffolk County Council through its Green Travel Plan, ends tomorrow (28th July).

But the Borough Council is to run a new trial service during the lunchtime period. This service will be operated by Ipswich Buses and funded by the Borough staff’s own Green Travel Plan (mainly made up of staff car parking fees).

The decision has been made amid concerns that there would otherwise be a harmful effect on town centre trade at lunchtimes as many staff from Russell Road and surrounding areas go into town to shop.

The new service will:

  • Operate Mondays to Fridays from 31st July to 30th March 2018
  • Be available to the public
  • Be free for all passengers
  • Run every 15 minutes between 11.30am and 2.30pm
  • Run on a revised route using Upper Brook Street instead of Tacket Street and Bond Street
  • Be called service 37

Ipswich Borough Council says the usage of the trial service will be monitored to help with decisions for April 2018 onwards.
