Christchurch Mansion launches new digital guide for visitors

Published31st March 2023

The Colchester + Ipswich Museums service is delighted to launch a new digital guide for Christchurch Mansion to enhance the experience of visitors as they tour the historic building.

Using a free app, created by Bloomberg Philanthropies, visitors can learn much more about the collections on display in the many different rooms inside thanks to detailed information captured on the digital guide.

Christchurch Mansion joins many museums successfully using the service. To use the service, the Bloomberg Connects app can be downloaded for free onto a mobile phone (by scanning a QR code or downloading from Google Play or the App Store).

Once downloaded, ‘Christchurch Mansion’ is selected from the list of venues, then clicking on the logo to start the audio guide. The supporting map helps users to navigate the museum in an advised direction and to locate key objects and displays mentioned as part of the guide.

The app can also be used remotely as photo, audio and video features offer insights into the art collections, exhibitions, and 500 years of history of this iconic Ipswich building for those wishing to learn more about the mansion but are unable to visit in person.

A spokesperson for the Colchester + Ipswich Museums Service, says: “This new digital guide includes highlights about the families who’ve lived in Christchurch Mansion over the years, audio describing the many artworks on display as well as overviews on the exhibits both for visitors to enhance their experience and those wishing to learn more about the mansion remotely.”
