The Heritage Open Days weekend is a great opportunity to discover Ipswich’s “hidden” heritage.
The event on 9th and 10th September is co-ordinated by the Ipswich Society and supported by the Borough Council with the aim of encouraging residents and visitors to explore some of the town’s treasures.
Many of them are not open to the public throughout the year, so here’s your chance. They include Broomhill lido, the Willis Towers Watson building, the sailing barge Victor and the Ipswich Institute.
More than 30 buildings are open on Saturday and Sunday, along with free guided walks around some of the town’s best locations.
And on Saturday a bus provided by Ipswich Transport Museum is on hand to whisk you around the town in style – again for free. Make it a family day – the children will love it!
Several buildings have refreshments on offer, there are independent cafes in the Saints and Blackfriars areas or you could pack a picnic and one of our beautiful parks.
The Ipswich Society is grateful to all concerned for their participation. The buildings listed represent seven centuries in the history of Ipswich.
