Ipswich Borough Council has unanimously backed a motion pledging to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of anti-semitism.

The motion was proposed by Councillor Alasdair Ross, who told colleagues that the Borough Council should make a stand against bullying and racism.

He told a meeting of the Council: "As Ipswich born and bred, I have always seen my town as welcoming to all those who have decided to make Ipswich their home however I am sure there are those who have not always had a positive experience. It is important that as local political leaders we lead by example."

Other Councillors from all three political groups spoke in support of the motion before all Councillors present voted in favour of it.
