Council invests in sheltered scheme

Ipswich Borough Council is carrying out major improvements to Cumberland Towers on Norwich Road.

Cumberland Towers is a Council-owned sheltered housing scheme and is benefitting from a £1.4 million investment.

The first phase of the work began last year and saw the installation of new high efficiency heaters both in the 69 flats and in communal areas.

This spring sees the start of the second phase of the refurbishment - energy efficient windows and balcony screens are being installed and open balconies are being enclosed. In addition, the Council is carrying out external thermal insulation cladding and putting in new doors and windows.

The work is set for completion in the autumn.

Not only will the refurbishment bring Cumberland Towers up to modern high standards, it should also bring lower heating bills for tenants.
