Council supports heart charity

This Friday British Heart Foundation will be running its annual ‘Wear It. Beat It’ campaign and Ipswich Borough Council is asking the public to support some exciting activities at its sport centres and swimming pools.

All profits will go to British Heart Foundation to help those that have suffered from heart-related diseases. Heart disease causes 27% of all deaths in the UK and with approximately 7 million people living with a cardiovascular disease it affects many in the UK.

Activities on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th February include a Wear It Red Crown Pools Party, Pitch Up and Play Badminton, Squash Smash and Wear It Red fitness classes.

Councillor Bryony Rudkin said: "We are proud to support the British Heart Foundation and take our Heart Town status seriously. We all know that exercise and sport keeps you healthy and is great for the heart. We are hoping that through these activities we can raise awareness of the Wear It Beat It campaign and help raise money for the British Heart Foundation. We hope to people will take advantage of the fun activities we have in store this weekend and wear something red."

Council staff are also pitching in by wearing red to work and holding a Fruit Sale with the aim of promoting healthy eating.
