A dog is for life…oh yes it is!

Regent Theatre’s Jack and the Beanstalk star George Sampson met his namesake on Tuesday when he visited two young pups at the Blue Cross rehoming centre near Ipswich

George and co-star Lauren Grice, who play Jack and the Good Fairy in this year’s pantomime, spent the morning cuddling up to Jack and Bean, a pair of beautiful dark brown puppies just five weeks old.

Her owners bought their mother, Nessie, to the centre in Wherstead when they discovered their beloved pet was heavily pregnant, and she gave birth on 17 November.

All the love, care and attention form the staff and their mother has meant Jack and Bean are healthy and happy – and have even had to go on a diet to keep them in shape before they’re listed for adoption on 29 December.

Animal Welfare Assistant Jack Mote said the centre expects to be overwhelmed with applications to adopt the duo: “There’s a lot of interest already and they’re not even up for adoption yet. I think that for the last litter of puppies we had 200 applications.”

Also in attendance was Councillor Sophie Meudec, Ipswich Borough Council’s portfolio holder for communities, who wanted the public to consider if they are ready to offer an animal a forever home: “A lot of people give up and don’t realise the responsibility of owning a pet. It’s always cute when they’re tiny, but sometimes when they start growing up they do silly things in the house and people can’t cope.

“I think the Blue Cross play a great part in the community in Ipswich.”
