Dropped cig butt costs motorist £400

Published28th November 2018

A motorist who threw a cigarette butt on to the road in Ipswich has been fined by the town’s magistrates.

Cheryl Chandler of Birch Drive, Brantham, was sent a Fixed Penalty Notice after being seen discarding the butt on Bishops Hill last April.

Chandler did not pay nor contact the Borough Council so was prosecuted under the Environmental Protection Act for littering from a vehicle. She was found guilty in her absence and fined £220, with £150 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
