Ipswich Borough Council has several temporary housing units in Ipswich. East Villa is the newest site which opened on the 1st August 2019 and has 45 rooms within the facility. Included in East Villa are communal areas, a laundry and meeting spaces as well as an enclosed garden. 80% of the rooms are for families with children and they are configured so that their rooms will all be together. Households staying in this temporary accommodation are engaged, with the Council, in accessing permanent accommodation.
There are at least two fully qualified staff on site 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. All areas inside and out are monitored by staff throughout the day and night. Occupants sign a Licence Agreement before being accommodated and are required to adhere to the conditions. The Council has considerable experience in running this type of housing unit and generally they cause very few, if any, issues for neighbours.
