Environmental Health Officers

As part of the Public Protection service area, you will provide a range of regulatory and enabling functions that affect the daily lives of people living, working and relaxing in Ipswich. The service is aimed at protecting and improving public health, the local environment and quality of life. The service brings together teams who play a highly visible role across the Council.

We are currently seeking an Environmental Health Officers for the Food Safety and the Occupational Health and Safety Teams.

Food Safety:

We are looking for officers who are committed to delivering the Council’s aim of ensuring all food businesses in the Borough are of a minimum 4 food hygiene rating. Officers are also involved in investigating food complaints, food sampling and undertaking infectious disease investigations

Occupational Health and Safety:

You will be carrying out risk based health and safety inspections, investigating work place complaints and accidents etc as per the National Enforcement Code. You may also participate in the Councils Safety Advisory Group, a multi-agency forum to ensure public events operate safely.

About You

Food Safety: Applications are invited from experienced or newly qualified Environmental Health Officers. You will have a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, be registered with the EHRB and be a member of CIEH.  You will also need to demonstrate that you meet the relevant competencies and CPD requirements laid out in Chapter 4 of the Food Law Code of Practice.

Occupational Health and Safety: This is a specialist post dealing largely with occupational health and safety issues. In addition to your EHO qualification we would like you to have a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, be able to demonstrate you are ‘Section 18 competent’ and have recently worked to National LA Enforcement Code parameters
