Former police station comes down

The demolition of Ipswich’s former police station is under way.

The building on the corner of Elm Street and Civic Drive, now owned by the Borough Council, is being demolished by contractors RG Carter and the site should be cleared by the end of the summer.

The work includes separating the building from the former Crown Court, also owned by the Council and now housing CSV Media.

Council Leader David Ellesmere said: “It is a building which has been part of the town for many years. But it was not realistic to extend its life so it is important to clear the site and allow it to be redeveloped over the next few years.”
