Climate change is a global problem and there is increasing evidence that early and rapid reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are needed to avoid the significant impacts of climate change.
Within the UK, Local Authorities produce a significant proportion of the UK's GHG emissions and so can have a direct influence over their management. Under the Climate Change Act 2008 the UK must reduce total GHG emissions by at least 80% from 1990 levels by 2050.
The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) are requesting that each Local Authority publishes it's own greenhouse gas emissions report. This report will show the total tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
