Have your say on boundary proposals

Published19th October 2017

The Boundary Commission for England has published revised parliamentary constituency proposals for public consultation.

The proposed changes would reduce the number of MPs at Westminster from 650 to 600.

Suffolk would retain seven seats under the proposals but there would be changes to some boundaries, including the Ipswich Constituency.

The Castle Hill ward, currently in the Central Suffolk & North Ipswich constituency, would be transferred to the Ipswich Constituency to ensure the seat met the population criteria. Whitton and Whitehouse wards would remain in the Central Suffolk & North Ipswich constituency.

An earlier proposal to transfer Pinewood into the Ipswich Constituency has been dropped.

To see the proposals in detail go to the Boundary Commission for England’s website www.bce2018.org.uk. The consultation closes on 11th December. If you would like to make any comments they must be submitted to the Boundary Commission and not to the Borough Council.

Any changes to current boundaries will be voted on by MPs.
