Historic docks talk and slide show

Published27th November 2015

A talk and slide show on the history of Ipswich Docks is taking place on Friday 8th January.

The illustrated talk, entitled “170 Years of Life around Ipswich Docks”, will be presented by Stuart Grimwade, a Director of Ipswich Maritime Trust, and will include photographs from the Trust’s archives which he has accumulated and restored.

The talk is taking place aboard the historic sailing barge Victor, berthed on Ipswich Waterfront outside the Old Custom House. Doors open at 7pm and the talk starts at 8pm. Victor’s licensed bar will be open for the event. Tickets for the talk cost £5 per person and are available in advance from Ipswich's Tourist Information Centre, St Stephen’s Church, tel: 01473 258070, email tourist@ipswich.gov.uk.

Victor is herself a feature of Ipswich’s maritime history. Built in the town in 1895, she worked the local coast and estuaries carrying bulk cargo for many decades. Today, she is fully restored for pleasure cruises as well as hosting events, functions and meetings.
