Last Friday saw around 700 people visit Bourne Park for Ipswich Borough Council’s first Family Fun Day event of the summer – just two days after visitors settled down at Christchurch Park to watch the Pantaloons sold-out performance of Pride and Prejudice.
Despite some heavy showers, families enjoyed the Fun Day event with its wildlife exhibit, rock-climbing wall and roarsome dinosaur experience, as well as various sports challenges and a fun fair.
The summer fun continues this week with two further Family Fun Days – starting with Holywells Park on Wednesday 11 August and Whitehouse Park on Thursday 12 August. The final event will take place at Chantry Park on Wednesday 25 August.
Councillor Sarah Barber, Ipswich Borough Council’s portfolio holder for the town centre, said: “It was brilliant to see families coming out to enjoy the event despite the rain. There were activities for everyone, and I can’t wait to see people visiting our other parks later this week for more free family fun – hopefully this time in the sun!”
Later this month will also see a two-day summer festival take place at Ipswich waterfront. Summertime Ipswich will take place on Saturday 21 (10am – 10pm) and Sunday 22 August (10am – 9pm), and include live music, fairground rides, a gift stall market, an artisan food and drink court and, in connection with Christchurch Mansion’s Power of Stories exhibition, appearances from everyone’s favourite Marvel and DC characters – including Black Panther, Iron Man and Wonder Woman.
