Ipswich Borough Council’s bin crews have resumed normal collections after catching up on the backlog caused by the snow chaos last week.
The crews battled some treacherous conditions over the past week and worked on Saturday and yesterday to catch up with collections scheduled for last week. A spokesman said: “We are back to normal business and are sending staff out to get any missed bins reported to us. So, please leave your bins out by 6am on your normal collection day and we’ll be there.”
The snow and ice made it almost impossible for the bin crews last week but they did go out almost every day until they were forced back by conditions that made it unsafe for them and residents.
There has been a lot of support for them on social media and today the Mayor of Ipswich, Sarah Barber, paid tribute to their dedication. “I have had the pleasure of going out with the crews and know at first hand the hard job they have. The snow and ice made that job become a great deal harder but they still went out in some terrible conditions. On behalf of the people of Ipswich, I want to thank all of them, the back office staff and managers for showing what public service is all about.”
