Next week (9 March), the Council’s Executive will consider recommendations for more financial support for an array of Ipswich businesses - including the independent town-centre retail sector as well as taxi and private hire vehicle drivers. In total, an additional £750,000 is being allocated to support local businesses.
If agreed, the Council will then have allocated around £3.5m of Additional Restrictions Grant to hundreds of businesses since November.
In total, the Council will then have made more than £37m in grant payments since the pandemic started.
Councillor David Ellesmere, Ipswich Borough Council Leader, says:
“I am proud of the way the Council has been able to support local businesses over the last year – a year that has been hugely financially challenging for the vast majority of local businesses. I am pleased that I will be proposing that we give even more financial support to many independent retailers and also to nearly 600 taxi and private hire vehicle drivers.”
