Ipswich Borough Council secures new restaurant for former Little Waitrose.

Published2nd August 2021

A new restaurant will be moving into the site of the former Little Waitrose in the Town Hall complex if Ipswich Borough Council’s Executive gives the go ahead at its meeting next week.

Attracting a new quality restaurant to sign a 25-year lease to a is a real vote of confidence in the town. The new venue will attract visitors and business to the town centre and will boost both the daytime and the night-time economy as well as provide employment.

This new restaurant is also likely to attract further interest by retailers and hospitality venues to locate in Ipswich town centre. Directly opposite is the Old Post Office which will open as ‘The Botanist’ pub, bar and restaurant later this year. New outside seating for the restaurant will assist its integration with surrounding shops, restaurants and more.

Says Councillor David Ellesmere, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council:

“I am really pleased we have been able to secure a tenant for the Little Waitrose unit. A new quality restaurant in the heart of the Town Centre is another boost for Ipswich, following closely on the back of the great news that the Botanist are planning on opening in the Old Post Office later this year. The town centre has taken a real knock during Covid but there’s a lot of renewed commercial interest at the moment and I’m hopeful that we’ll start to see the number of vacant properties start to reduce over the coming months.
