Ipswich Lettings Partnership

You are here

Ipswich Lettings Partnership has been developed by Ipswich Borough Council to increase access to good quality homes in the private sector for anyone living in Ipswich faced with losing their existing accommodation.

Information for tenants

Very often, private rented accommodation is the most viable option for those faced with the loss of their existing accommodation. It is more readily available, and normally gives the tenant the option to choose the area they would prefer to live in.

For households that need assistance with the initial costs to secure accommodation in the private sector, the Ipswich Lettings Partnership may be able to help in the following ways:

Deposit Bond Scheme

Instead of a traditional cash deposit, the Council will sign a written agreement with the landlord and tenant guaranteeing the deposit amount should any damage or losses occur. The deposit will last for the life of the tenancy.

Rent in Advance Scheme

After careful assessment, in suitable cases, it is possible to borrow the funds for Rent in Advance from Eastern Savings and Loans (formerly Ipswich and Suffolk Credit Union) interest free.

These Schemes are subject to qualifying criteria. To find out if you qualify or if you are in need of assistance to secure accommodation in the private sector and you currently reside in the Ipswich Borough Council area, please get in touch with the Housing Options team using the contact details on this page.

Information for landlords

The Ipswich Lettings Partnership has been created as a response to the widely reported shortage of housing stock and increasing pressure on the housing waiting list.

Private sector housing is now the most viable and more readily available housing option for the majority of households so Ipswich Borough Council are aiming to develop working relationships with local letting agents and landlords.

The Ipswich Lettings Partnership can:

  • signpost prospective tenants to you without pressure or obligation;
  • arrange for Housing Benefit to be paid directly to you where applicable and monitor Housing Benefit claims;
  • provide a Deposit Bond which will last the lifetime of the tenancy;
  • undertake inventories and provide tenancy agreements and/ or Section 21 Notices;
  • provide a designated point of contact for any issues throughout the duration of the tenancy;
  • assist in securing alternative accommodation for your tenant to coincide with the expiry of Section 21 Notice whenever possible;
  • provide low level tenant support or make referrals for floating support for your tenants;
  • maintain regular contact with you during the lifetime of the tenancy.

These services are provided free of charge to both letting agents and individual landlords. More information is provided in the Ipswich Lettings Partnership Landlords Information leaflet.

If you are a Private Sector landlord or agent and would like the Ipswich Lettings Partnership to help you find a suitable tenant, or would just like an informal chat, please contact the Private Lettings Co-ordinator on 01473 433221.
