Ipswich stands in silence

The Mayor of Ipswich, Sarah Barber, was joined by representatives of many faiths as well as civic leaders as she led the official one minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the Manchester terror attack.

Ipswich shoppers stood on the Cornhill at 11am and the market fell silent as the Mayor prefaced the silence by welcoming “people of all faiths and none to come together in sorrow and support for the city of Manchester”.

The Borough Council, like all Government departments and local authorities across the UK, also marked the silence at many of its facilities, including Grafton House.

The Mayor has written to the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, to express her sorrow and outrage on behalf of the people of Ipswich.
