Ipswich takes up ActivPentathlon Challenge

Published30th March 2017

More than 80 Ipswich people took part in the ActivPentathlon Challenge, an initiative targeted at those over 55 who are not currently taking part in regular sport or physical activity.

This event is part of the ActivIpswich programme, a partnership project between ActivLives and Ipswich Borough Council, funded by Sport England and the National Lottery.

The ActivPentathlon consisted of a series of taster sessions in a variety of sports, including multi sports, archery, swimming, golf and even some Olympic-style gymnastics, over five  weeks at various venues across Ipswich.

“The response to the challenge event has been fantastic with so many people being prepared to come along and have a go at a new sport”, said Mike McCarthy, from ActivLives. “The participants have ranged in age from mid-50’s to mid-80’s, it really has been inspirational to see such enthusiasm and commitment to giving sport a go particularly from people who are not regular sports participants”.

The next big date for the ActivIpswich project is Tuesday 13th June when the second ActivLives Community Games, for those over 50 years old, will be held in Ipswich.
