Jumpers 4 Goalposts provide fun and learning for Maple Park, Ipswich young people

Published9th March 2022

A successful Jumpers 4 Goalposts event was recently held in the Multi-Use Games Area in Maple Park, Ipswich and which was attended by over thirty young people aged between seven to fourteen.

The session was to get local young people more active and help them have positive activities. The sessions, as well as playing football, also teach discipline and respect. Coaches work with young people to teach them how to work as a team and there to help young people that need support or advice.

The course was funded through the Safer Streets programme which was awarded to the Maple Park area last year. Football sessions at Maple Park started running in 2021 and have been very successful in getting young people in the Maple Park area engaged in positive activity. A need from the local community was identified and these sessions were put on in partnership between Ipswich Borough Council and Catch 22/Positive Futures through the successful Jumpers 4 Goalposts programme and which has delivered sporting activities to thousands of young people across the town.

Regular sessions will restart in early spring at Maple Park and will be open to young people across the area, which Ipswich Borough Council will be putting on with support from Catch 22/Positive Futures.

Cllr Bryony Rudkin, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Communities and Sport, says:

“These sessions are great at engaging a range of youngsters in the Maple Park area in positive activity as well as keeping them active. To see so many young people of different ages taking part and having fun is really good for the area. These interventions, as well as improving activity levels of some of our most deprived communities are also good ways of ensuring they are engaged in positive activities.”
