Launch party for Memory Lane Café

Published7th September 2017

Memory Lane Café, the new weekly dementia meeting place in Ipswich, is celebrating its opening this month.

The Deputy Mayor, Roger Fern, will host the event on Tuesday 26th September to recognise the hard work of volunteers and local businesses. Councillor Fern is Chair of the Ipswich Dementia Alliance.

Memory Lane Cafe is run by six volunteers - Lesley Groom, Tina Vickers, Julie Young, Mary Mudd, Lyn Jolley and Kelly Hosking – who have personal experience of dementia and an understanding of how the café makes a difference to the lives of the people who come each week. Their mission is to provide friendship, support, activities and a light lunch.

Memory Lane Café is open to carers and cared for who are living with dementia. It also welcomes those who have been bereaved by dementia.

Based at The Rosary Club on Bramford Road in Ipswich, Memory Lane Cafe is open from 11am - 3pm every Tuesday. There is an entrance charge of £1 per person and complimentary tea and coffee is available while the café is open. A light lunch is served at 12.30pm and activities such as quizzes, visiting entertainers, chair exercises, singing and bingo take place both before and after lunch.
